Category Archives: main courses One of the best things about this time of year for me is that I get to cook for more people than just Jon and I. My kids aren’t really up for trying too many new things so it’s a pleasure to have Lorna and Mum here, and to have Jon’s family over for dinner…  Now Halloween is done with, we (in America) are racing toward our next big holiday, Thanksgiving. Last year my brother-in law and his wife did the honors, and the year before that my mother-in-law, so this year I’m up! This means the next few recipes from me will all be things that might make it…  So you may have noticed that we haven’t posted for a while, in fact I think Lorna’s been given a fairly hard time by a few GF&H followers, what can we say, other than we’re sorry… but we’re happy to have you wanting more. We certainly have the will and desire to post much more…  As much as I love to cook sometimes the thought of making something I can buy ready-made at Wholefoods doesn’t always seem worth the effort, but whilst the ready-made dough is great for its ease, the taste isn’t always what I want. Recently I started getting pizza from a local place and was blown away…  Okay, time for some comfort food. This soup is definitely hearty enough for a main course and it’s really perfect when it’s cold and snowy outside. I think another reason I like it is that it’s a good backup dinner, I have most of the ingredients in the house all the time, including a smoked…  Last week we decided to put our air conditioners back in our apartment windows. Unfortunately we hadn’t expected the weather in New York to go back to being so cold and by Sunday, our place was like a meat locker! As we couldn’t reach anyone in the building to get the heat turned back on… |
